RSC Northern support for the specialist colleges began in the summer of 2003, working in partnership with the JISC service Techdis.
Colleges with more than 10 LSC funded students have been eligible for support and funding to assist with the uptake of ILT. A list of the colleges in the JISC RSC Northern Region is available.

A part funded technician scheme provided an opportunity for providers to share the costs of a technical staff member to assist.
A national mailing list for discussion of ILT issues, SCILT@jiscmail.ac.uk, for specialist college staff only, has been established by Techdis. Key ILT contacts have been included if you have any queries relating to the list or any general queries, please email the helpdesk.
The success of the first Innovation scheme led to Innovation 2 in 2007. This new opportunity encouraged similar initiatives, with particular emphasis on embedding the good practice into mainstream practice, and encouraging its spread to other colleges. Colleges were asked to bid for funding for projects utilising ILT and e-learning in innovative ways for the benefit of staff and students. Overall funding of £200,000 was available divided into varying levels of funding in order to allow for projects of different sizes. Innovation2 was open to all specialist Colleges with an approved or pending ILT strategy. The interest was so high that bids finally reached £780,000 which of course far outstripped the amount that was available.
